Six decades of signature homes on the Costa del Sol

This selection brings together a representative sample of the detached villas designed and supervised by Santos Arquitectos over more than sixty years of uninterrupted activity on the Costa del Sol. Each commission arose from different circumstances, clients and eras, but all share the same commitment to constructive quality and integration into the Mediterranean landscape.

The catalogue of languages is deliberately broad. Classical Andalusian architecture — whitewashed facades, Arab-tile roofs, semicircular arches — coexists with more singular approaches: the villa with Norman-style slate roof from the 1970s, the compositions with columned porticos typical of the 1990s, the sky-blue or deep terracotta facades of the early 2000s, or the clean terraced volumes on hillsides of more recent projects.

The construction as a portrait of its time

The construction photographs are in themselves a document: they show building processes, materials, plots not yet landscaped. They are the negative of what will later become mature gardens, pools in use and facades alive under the sun. That look at the process is also part of the studio's identity: technical rigour in site supervision is inseparable from the architectural value of the project.

The aerial views complete the story and allow one to appreciate the siting of each villa on its plot: the generosity of the gardens, the relationship between the built footprint and the trees, the access routes, the roof volumes. A perspective the studio has always considered essential for understanding the true quality of a luxury residence.
