Fuengirola, Málaga
The expansion project for the Aquamijas water park in Fuengirola proposes to transform and extend the existing facilities by incorporating a large indoor-use volume that extends the recreational offer of the complex throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.
The most distinctive element of the proposal is the ETFE roof — a fluorine-based polymer of great lightness and high light transmission — which envelops the interior space creating an atmosphere of diffuse natural light. This technical solution, common in major European sports and aquatic facilities, generates a warm, luminous interior environment with a minimal-impact structural system.
The programme is organised into three distinct areas: the covered aquatic zone, with water attractions and pools available year-round; the gym, fully equipped for training; and the spa, conceived as a space for recovery and wellbeing with hydrotherapy and thermal treatments. The nocturnal image of the building, with the translucent roof lit from within, turns the facility into a visual landmark on Fuengirola's coastal front.
